Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary Photography Workshop:

I will again be conducting two workshops in Orr, MN with the main subjects being Minnesota Black Bears at the Sanctuary.  These workshops will include photo sessions at the sanctuary and class sessions at Grey Wolf Lodge on Pelican Lake.

The size of the class is limited so sign up early. Beginning Digital Photography

In this beginning digital photography course you’ll learn to take better digital photographs by understanding the technology behind it. The class is geared towards both “point and shoot” and SLR digital cameras. Some of the digital topics to be taught will include white balance, digital histograms, file formats and many other topics to help make you a better digital photographer. Through lecture, discussion and small shooting assignments this class will take the mystery out of digital photography. All participants should bring their cameras and operating manuals to all class sessions.


Intermediate Digital Photography

This class is designed for those that have completed the beginning class or have equivalent knowledge and use SLR Digital cameras. We will review some of the basics of digital but also go into greater detail on white balance, histograms, JPEG vs. RAW files, exposure, composition, types of lenses and many other topics related to making you a better photographer. We’ll also spend some time in the computer lab downloading images and learning basic workflow using Adobe Photoshop. After each session participants will be assigned small shooting assignment. All participants should bring their cameras and operating manuals to all class sessions.

This weekend nature photography workshop is not only designed to make you a better photographer but also to bring you closer to nature as you look through your camera’s view finder. Although we’ll be covering much digital information, both film and digital photographers are welcome. The class is designed for all levels of photographers who are SLR camera users and familiar with basic camera functions.

Saturday Session: Class session at IFP Minnesota for Media Arts 10:00 am–5:00 pm . We’ll discuss such topics as white balance, using your histogram, getting the most out of RAW files, the digital crop factor, ISO settings and other useful digital information. More general information such as understanding exposure, improving your eye for more pleasing compositions, understanding natural light, close-up photography, landscape photography and more will also be covered.

Sunday Session: This will be an all-day field shoot at various state and county parks in Southeast Minnesota . Topics will be photographing wildflowers, streams, lakes, landscapes and anything else that we happen upon. Note: State Park permits will be required for vehicles. Details on exact locations will be addressed during our Saturday session.

Please bring your camera and operating manual to class both days.


A Day in the Field

Cost: $200.00 (8-10 hours)

Small groups up to 3 also available call or e-mail for more information.

“A Day in the Field” is a full day session that will be designed for the individual or individuals involved. This could be a full day of shooting in various locations that would be agreed on in advance. Other possibilities could be a half day class session combined with a ½ day field shoot. Some individuals may even prefer a full day class session.

I will conduct “A Day in the Field” for the individual/s that is interested in personalized instruction. My goal for “A Day in the Field” is to make you a better nature photographer by strengthening your weak areas.

Note: Depending on locations etc. other expenses may be involved. These expenses would be agreed on before photographer’s commitment.
